Scott Bader Speciality Polymers is exhibiting at the H3i Exhibition and Conference, which this year runs from 11-12 March at the NMM Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK. H3i is a specialist exhibition covering raw materials, ingredients and formulation of household, industrial and institutional cleaning products. Scott Bader will be promoting on its stand (No: 210) the specialist ranges of Texipol inverse emulsions and TexicrylASE and HASE emulsions, which can be used to thicken a wide range of liquid and cream cleaning products; both water based ranges of thickeners are based on innovative Scott Bader technology chemistries.
All Texipol inverse emulsions grades are supplied pre neutralised, so no additional alkali or surfactant is required to activate thickening. They offer the flexibility of being able to be added at any stage of formulating, including post adjustment. An inverse emulsion thickener is made up of water in an oil emulsion, with the continuous phase being oil. When Texipols are added to water or a waterborne system, the Texipol ‘inverts’ with the help of the water soluble emulsifiers and water becomes the continuous phase; once added, thickening is almost instantaneous and as a result, the use of a Texipol thickener in a formulation can reduce blending cycle times by a minimum of 50%. Texipol grades also benefit from having a high thickening efficiency, so only a low level of thickener is needed, offering further cost saving benefits for a cleaning products manufacturer. Texipol inverse emulsion thickeners are supplied in a low viscosity format, so are easy to pump and meter on a production line.
The Texicryl range of ASE (Alkali Swellable Emulsions) and hydrophobically modified alkali swellable emulsions (HASE) liquid thickeners share a number of the feature and benefits offered by Scott Bader’s inverse emulsion thickeners, but with some added attributes and characteristics. According to Scott Bader, this makes the Texicryl ASE and HASE grades developed by its R & D team even more efficient and beneficial to use with certain cleaning product formulations. For example, their excellent solubility characteristics help to produce crystal clear aqueous gels. Both the Texicryl ASE and Texicryl HASE thickener grades can provide tailored rheological properties to a final formulated system as needed. Effects such as high ‘in-can’ stability and excellent pigment suspension characteristics can be achieved, as well as also imparting ‘cling’ to any vertical substrates to which the finished cleaning product is applied; this attribute has proved to be of particular benefit for some car care products and certain types of household cleaning products.
